TAKE NO THOUGHT FOR TOMORROW
It probably goes without saying that the teachings of Jesus can be very demanding and disruptive, but never in a negative way. If actualized, his teachings always bring healing to our lives and glorious victory. For instance, He calmly tells His followers to “Take no thought for tomorrow” (Matthews 6:34). On the surface it sounds simple, but the more the individual endeavors to apply this principle to their everyday life, it is the more one realizes how difficult this teaching can be to follow and obey. The more we carefully investigate the Scriptures is the more we understand that these were not mere suggestions, but actual divine principles and commands which the Master established in order for us to have the most fulfilling lives ever.
Here Jesus was giving his disciples the prescription to live a stress-free life, without the venomous elements of worry and anxiety. The fact is, we worry so much that we now find ourselves stressing about how to put these vital instructions of Jesus into practice. We worry about how not to worry. How do we fulfil His explicit instructions about not worrying and living an absolutely calm and stress-free life?
So much of our day-to-day existence seems to be branded by stress and worry. We worry and stress almost all the time, especially during this Coronavirus pandemic. It might be safe to say that our stress level has been taken to another level since this year began, slapping us with one crisis after the next, with many being so stressed, that tomorrow only evokes feelings of more stress and despair. Instead of being the people of faith, we have become almost like the world, people of fear –paranoid, distressed, depressed, disoriented and sometimes erratic. Many have now become nervous wrecks, completely afraid of tomorrow and what the future holds.
However, the command of Jesus to His pilgrim church still stands -“Take no thought for tomorrow.” Live stress-free! Live in the Now! Embrace today! Celebrate “the goodness of the Lord now in the land of the living” (Psalm 27:13). Bring your thoughts back to the here and now. See and experience the power of the living God now surging through every fiber of your being and seize the moment now to erupt in present praise. May the God who is, help us to be alive, awakened, and conscious to this present moment in time and to His presence with us right now in the present moment. May God help us to be Present! Please do not miss what is happening today because you are so preoccupied and distracted by tomorrow. Let not the thoughts of tomorrow disrupt and disturb your spiritual equilibrium, robbing you of present joy and the glorious blessings of this present moment. Jesus said, “Let not your hearts be troubled, trust in God; trust also in me” (John 14:1).
He calmly said, “Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own” (Matthews 6:34). We thank you, Lord, for meeting with us here and in the Now. Thank you for Today! Thank you for making us even more aware of your presence with us now more than ever. You are “... an ever-present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1). Our Refuge and Strength, we praise you even Now! Let us place a serious moratorium on worry as we live through this awful Coronavirus pandemic and beyond. Thank you, Lord, for present power and grace. Thank you for bringing us back from the precipice of despair. We rejoice Now in You Today!
